The EAN annual conference in York in 2009 revisited a topic which lies at the heart of facilitating participation in higher education for underrepresented groups: the necessity of changing the culture of the campus to meet the requirements of an increasingly diverse student population. In the ten years that have passed since EAN last addressed this issue much has changed, but as this conference clearly demonstrated, there is still a long way to go. Not only is it a matter of adjusting the culture of the campus to meet the incoming students but there is also a need to take the issue of employability into consideration.
